Ruapehu New Zealand

My first time visiting Ruapehu was when I was 13 years old, a friend and I went away on a ski camp. Determined to be like the cool kids we decided to snowboard, despite neither of us ever having been on the snow. I still have flashbacks of being dragged up the t-bar, face in the snow, clutching on for dear life. Eventually, I got there and have since made many fond memories from my time spent snowboarding on this awesome mountain. When Visit Ruapehu got in touch inviting me to come back and photograph this awesome region I was excited to get back and look at it with fresh eyes!

We were welcomed on our way in with an incredibly colourful sunset!

Taranaki Falls

After dinner @RachStewartNZ, @JackBurdenImages, @Ryan_Domenico, decided to head out to shoot the impressive Taranaki Falls in hopes of capturing the 20 meter falls from the bottom with the milky-way core above.
After trekking in the back for around 45 minutes we made it and started setting up our cameras. We quickly realized it was so dark that not even the intensity of the stars was enough to illuminate the waterfall. In order to capture the spectacle, I used my mobile phone to illuminate the foreground and light up the waterfall.

Snow Boarding at Ruapehu!

I was more than happy to get to spend the better part of the day rekindling my relationship with Whakapapa Ski Field! I hadn’t had the chance to enjoy the new Ski lift recently installed so it was awesome getting to re-explore my way around the mountain.

Sunset at Whakapapa!

One of the highlights our trip was this incredible sunset. I decided to hike a short way off the road in search of an epic foreground, I couldn’t believe my luck when I chanced upon these cool alpine tarns that were reflecting perfectly!
Taking in the incredible views over Mount Ngauruhoe at sunset.
Never forget to look behind you when shooting sunset – I managed to nab this epic moody shot of the summit of Mount Ruapehu!
We were incredibly lucky to get to stay at the iconic Chateau Tongariro Hotel.
The Mangawhero Falls is one of the many incredible waterfalls to be found in the region!
If only every drive was enchanting as the drive up to the Turoa Ski Field.
I’ve spent a lot of time hiking around Ruapehu, there’s so much diversity and cool places to find!
Judged the best day walk in New Zealand, the view over the Emerald Lakes at sunrise is my #RuapehuMustDo!

I can’t wait to get back to Ruapehu for more adventures soon!
